As my Mom has recently gotten into the raw food diet, for this past Mother’s Day I decided to order her “The Box” from raw food chef Matt Amsden’s RAWvolution.com.
The Box is basically a package of gourmet raw foods delivered to your door. It was $120 plus $30 for 2-day shipping to Arizona where my Mom lives. (RAWvolution is located in the Los Angeles area.) The package was large and hefty. At first I thought $30 for shipping was a bit steep, but after hearing the description of the box it may actually be a bargain. Definite “thud factor” there.
The box was insulated and included an ice pack to keep things cool. The food arrived on schedule and survived the trip well — nothing was spoiled, spilled, or squashed during the 2-day journey. I had ordered the May 11 menu, which included these items Read more »
Today I treated myself to lunch at Cafe Gratitude, my favorite raw food restaurant. It’s called a “raw burger” but there’s no meat involved. Everything is organic and hand made, right down to the ketchup!
(Sorry about the audio quality… Please forgive me, I’m not a professional!)
The smoothie was made with spinach, lettuce, and some other green leafy things blended together with 1 banana, a splash of orange juice, and some raw walnuts. The fruit sweetens it up and masks the taste of the greens, so it’s really a painless and tasty way to get more fresh fruits and veggies in!
The “dressing” is simply blended tomatoes, dried tomatoes, avocado, dates, and cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil.
Lunch
It was too thick to begin with so I added some orange juice to thin it out.
Dinner
The rolls are like Japanese makki: thin zucchini slices stuffed with nuts & tomatoes. The Thai “som tom” spicy has raw cashews in place of peanuts and was just fabulous!
