As my Mom has recently gotten into the raw food diet, for this past Mother’s Day I decided to order her “The Box” from raw food chef Matt Amsden’s RAWvolution.com.
The Box is basically a package of gourmet raw foods delivered to your door. It was $120 plus $30 for 2-day shipping to Arizona where my Mom lives. (RAWvolution is located in the Los Angeles area.) The package was large and hefty. At first I thought $30 for shipping was a bit steep, but after hearing the description of the box it may actually be a bargain. Definite “thud factor” there.
The box was insulated and included an ice pack to keep things cool. The food arrived on schedule and survived the trip well — nothing was spoiled, spilled, or squashed during the 2-day journey. I had ordered the May 11 menu, which included these items Read more »
Today I treated myself to lunch at Cafe Gratitude, my favorite raw food restaurant. It’s called a “raw burger” but there’s no meat involved. Everything is organic and hand made, right down to the ketchup!

Ah yes, yesterday I had an all-day business meeting in the city, and ate out for lunch and dinner.
Lunch was a spinach salad with tamarind dressing.
Dinner was Thai food — Por Pia Sod (ปอเปี๊ยะสด), or fresh (raw?) spring rolls, as well as stir-fried tofu & basil. The latter had a star next to it on the menu, but I ate one of the chilis and didn’t notice anything happening.
Does the term conjur images of boring, repetitive salads, nuts, and berries?
Discouraged by the thought of the foods you would be “giving up”?
Well check out these photos… They’ll blow you away almost as much as actually being there and tasting it yourself!
These were taken during a recent trip to Café Gratitude restaurant in San Rafael, CA. This is my favorite raw food restaurant, and one of the best places to take the unraw and really blow their minds!
